Last updated:

Eileen Hoffman, MD, FACP, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Hoffman has been in the forefront of the evolving field of women’s health and sex- and gender-based medicine. She has consulted with government, medical schools, hospitals and the healthcare industry, both domestically and abroad, on the redesign of services to improve women’s healthcare.

Dr Hoffman is an activist, helping the field of Women’s Health evolve over the last 30 years. Her book, published in 1995, Women’s Health – A Revolutionary Approach to Total Health Care for Women, was the first to inform women about how to impact the health care system for change.

She was a member of the task force that defined the Clinical Competencies in Women’s Health for medical students. She was a consultant to the National Board of Medical Examiners to evaluate the medical licensing exam for its adequacy in women’s health. She contributed to the Rand Panel on the Appropriateness of Hysterectomy and the NIH State of the Science Panel to evaluate the data on incontinence, a common but ignored problem in women, and to recommend future areas of research. Her many publications in medical journals bring this perspective directly to clinicians and professors as they learn on their own.
