COPD: Is Stepping Down Therapy Safe?

Cutting glucocorticoids from maximal inhaled therapy for moderate-to-severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) didn’t worsen control over exacerbations, according to a trial that included 2,485 patients with a history of frequent COPD exacerbations. John J. Reilly, MD, of the University of Pittsburg said results indicated, “that a trial of glucocorticoid withdrawal will not increase the risk of exacerbation, even in patients with severe COPD.” Via Med Page Today.
