Ritu Goel, M.D., is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She specializes in developmental disabilities (including autism), depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and sleep disorders across all age groups. Besides patient care, Dr. Goel serves as an investigator and chair, as well as a member, of the Pediatric Data Monitoring Committee, focusing on participant safety and adverse event review during psychiatric clinical trials.
Dr. Goel applies clinical research evidence to practical, shared decision-making. Her integrative approach combines evidence-based prescribing with non-pharmacological methods, such as gut–brain axis and microbiome-informed strategies, nutrition, supplements, natural remedies, sleep optimization, mindfulness, psychotherapy, and family-school collaboration. The aim is to
deliver personalized care and use the lowest effective medication dose for the shortest necessary period.
Dr. Goel previously taught at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins, and she continues mentoring clinicians and educating families. Her work supports MedShadow’s mission: providing independent, evidence-based journalism, illuminating medication side effects, and highlighting integrative and lifestyle options so individuals can make informed choices.
