Diane Salvatore Executive Director

Diane Salvatore has been the Executive Director of MedShadow Foundation since July 2024, where she directs and oversees all operations of the foundations’ work, including advocacy and content across all platforms. 

Salvatore is an award-winning, four-time Editor-in-Chief of national brands—including Prevention and the nonprofit Consumer Reports—as well as a content strategist across digital platforms, including at Dotdash Meredith. She led digital product innovation at Lee Enterprises, the country’s fourth-largest chain of news sites, and led publishing and media organizations as VP/Publisher of the Broadway Books imprint at Crown/Random House, as Editor-in-Chief of Ladies’ Home Journal, and in senior editorial roles at Good Housekeeping, Glamour, Redbook, and Marie Claire.

Salvatore’s professional focus–and personal passion–has always been on health, social issues, and solutions-oriented, mission-based journalism that leads to calls-to-action for both individuals and policy-making bodies. Over her career, she has specialized in coverage of women’s health, supplement regulation, prescription drug overprescribing, AIDS treatment, product recall policy, teen suicide prevention, palliative care, nursing home reform, medical innovations, and more.

As a journalist, Salvatore has had the privilege of personally interviewing Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as creating events with then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, Senator Dick Durbin and television broadcasters Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer. 

She was twice nominated for prestigious American Society of Magazine Editors Awards (ASME), and she has won Columbia University’s Athena Award for excellence in health journalism, several Folio Eddie Awards, a National Citizens’ Coalition Public Service Award, and the American College of Emergency Physicians Journalism of Excellence award. 

Salvatore has been a frequent guest on The Today Show and Good Morning America. She has a BA from Penn State University (which awarded her the Distinguished Alumni Award, the university’s highest alumni honor) and an MA from New York University. She is a published novelist, and enjoys backyard birding, gardening and long-haired dachshunds.
