And yes, from the research I have done..the radiation treatments could absolutely be a contributing factor in causing you shoulder issues now. I’m so sorry.

Did your radiation oncologist discuss with you and stress to you the oral damage your radiation treatments could likely cause? And did he/she advise you to speak with an oral oncologist to start preventative treatments before you began your radiation treatments? My mother’s did not, nor did he mention she could completely lose her hearing, memory, ability to walk unassisted, and that the symptoms would continue to get worse over time. I am truly sorry for all that you have been through, and genuinely hope that you have experienced some improvements over the last nine months. Mu heart truly breaks for you. I have watched my mother deteriorate since her initial radiation treatments in 2008. We were never told what horrors that radiation treatments could cause. Including another bout of cancer which was treated with Proton Radiation this round. Her quality of life plummeted. I’m baffled that she received no counseling beforehand. I wish you well and hope you are doing better. And you are spot on when you say, “The gift that keeps on giving.”

I had H&N radiation in 1998 after squamous cell carcinoma stage 3 on my tongue. All the immediate side effects happened: bad taste in mouth, dry mouth, sinus issues, swallowing, etc. Then most things worked themselves out. After 2005, I began having issues with my teeth: crowns, root canals, broken, etc. 2007, I had my remaining teeth pulled and got implants. 2017, I bit down on a chip and my jaw broke. Surgery 1 required metal plate to put my jaw back together. Within a month, it was infected. Surgery 2 required a complete titanium mandible, after cleaning out crumbled bone. It also got infected! Surgery 3 required removing part of my fibula and a metal plate to grow me a new mandible. That was in 2017- 2018. So far no more surgeries but I now depend on a feeding tube for my nutrition because of all the jaw surgeries- caused completely by H&N radiation in the late 90s. I can swallow liquids well and most foods not so much.

But now, my question is, after all of that, could this same radiation be causing me, same side shoulder issues now? The gift that keeps on giving!?

Any replies are appreciated.

Thank you for an informative, real people, actual post radiation side effects, and recommendations to enlist prior to treatments. I will change my Amazon Smile contribution to MedShadow Foundation. Is there an associated blog or community you would recommend? WBRT resulted in large, painful nodules on forehead, at edge of thermoplastic mask. Oncologidts totally clueless.
