Healthy eating is an important aspect to any diet. Since food acts as medicine, whole food nutrition is key to combating illness, easing symptoms, and keeping your mind and body balanced.
The more raw fruits and vegetables you eat, the more your body rejects the things that are not good for it.
On this episode of Power to the Patient, Dr. Lillie Rosenthal sits down with health coach Samantha Salmon from Los Angeles, CA. As a black woman of Jamaican heritage, food has played a big role in Samantha’s life. Her decision to pivot towards clean food consumption led her to adopt a raw vegan diet.
Born and raised in Queens Village, NY, Samantha grew up in a Jamaican immigrant household, eating primarily Jamaican and American food. As with most traditional households, there was not a large focus on finer nutritional details regarding each meal. After the tragic loss of her grandmother from type 2 diabetes and the gradual discovery of her own food sensitivities, Samantha realized she had to make some drastic changes to her health and switched to a plant-based diet. For the past 13 years, she’s channeled her energy into opening a vegan health cafe, becoming a holistic health coach, starting her own podcast and much more.
Samantha’s mission in life is to inspire healthy living in the black community and reverse type 2 diabetes through whole food nutrition. With help from their doctors, she also wants to encourage people with type 2 diabetes to slowly and safely wean off their medications. Follow along with Samantha’s story for an inspirational view of health mindfulness and to discover the true power a raw vegan diet can have on your body and mind.
