Same here – No redness but almost 6 weeks later and I can barely lift my arm above my shoulder or behind my back –

For the people here experiencing shoulder pain beyond the normal few days after vaccine, or nerve related issues in their shoulder/arm/hand, there is a support group on Facebook called “SIRVA- Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration.” I posted about this a few weeks ago here but it’s buried now in the thread. Just wanted to put it out there again if you’re searching for answers or support. I hope everyone heals quickly. 😊

Thanks so much for this link to the group, I have joined and it’s so reassuring that it’s not just me! Seems to be an issue with how the vaccine was administered, which is very frustrating. I hope mine gets better soon, it’s not getting in the way of life but it’s sore when I wake up and hurts when I move my arm 🙁

CharlotteJune 11, 2021 7:38 AM

I am experiencing rotator cuff-like pain in both shoulders. The second Moderna shot was administered April 2nd. Have had rotator cuff surgery to right shoulder so know what the pain feels like. Bio-Freeze helps and ice also. It’s so odd that I am reaching out to see if anyone else is experiencing this shoulder pain this far out from getting their last shot.

Hi Charlotte, Got my 2nd Moderna 10 Feb and five days later the left arm/shoulder began aching. Received both shots in left arm. Today I am not feeling any discomfort unless I bend my arm a certain way. A week ago it hurt so badly I put a heating pad on it for a few hours. I have pain intermittently and at different levels depending how I use my arm/shoulder. Yes, seems like a rotator cuff injury at times and at times just like arthritis. All I know is I had no symptoms prior to the second shot. I would still get the shots, but think the CDC is not being up front with us about all the side effects. Much apparently is not known about the virus or the vaccine. There is definitely some cause and effect here. This Web Site calmed me down and I have not gone to the doc. However, have an annual physical in Aug and will ask a few questions, but expect no answers! Be Safe! jim in Va.

I got my 2nd Pfizer shot on Feb. 27th. My arm wasn’t as sore as it was the first shot. However, yesterday 6/7/21 my arm started hurting and burning where I got the shot and today it’s worse… any ideas?

I had my second Pfizer shot in February and in June my arm where I received the shot is sore, hard to lift and weak. I’m going to the doctor to check on it. Glad to know others are familiar with this experience. I’m hopeful this problem will get better soon.

laciaJune 18, 2021 11:08 AM

I am here because 6 months after receiving the Pfizer vaccine I now have a red hot itchy arm right at the spot of vaccination . I can’t find anything online to explain this. It is painful!

BrandieJune 9, 2021 6:59 PM

That is why I am here, searching for info. I received the Moderna shot in Feb. 2021 and now in June 2021 I too am having pain at the injection shot along with the feeling of my skin is crawling or muscle spasm and occasional numbness down my arm to my hand. Nobody can explain what and why I am having this.

LibbyJune 8, 2021 4:48 PM

That’s why I’m here too! I got my second Pfizer shot a month ago and today, out of the blue, my arm started hurting in the place where I got the shot!

Tricia ForseyJune 7, 2021 8:45 AM

Got my first Pfizer shot on March 12th…pain in my shoulder does not allow me to raise my arm straight out to the side or backwards without shooting pain. I can not lift anything heavy and now the pain has radiated down to my elbow joint and wrist joint. This poor arm is becoming increasingly useless. I do not want to get a second dose if this is not cleared up. Anyone else find that their symptoms eventually went away?

i got the Pfizer shot (both) and now have terrible elbow pain. 3 days after the 2nd shot, the pain was in my left breast, upper arm and elbow (shot on left side), but now I’m 5 weeks out and my both my elbows are very inflamed. I love t work out but have not been able to do anything with my arms for weeks. I’m getting worried it has triggered some major inflammation. Anyone else experiencing this?

ShannonJune 10, 2021 11:38 AM

I’m having this issue too but it occurred after my 2nd dose of Pfizer on Mar 28th. I’ve gone to a shoulder specialist and received a steroid shot for inflammation, however I’m still unable to use my arm. Only after my visit did I think it could be related to the vaccine.. Ibuprofen doesn’t help me but you can try it and see if you get any relief. I do however recommend you get your 2nd dose. Getting COVID is much worse! This is a pain that I’m sure will eventually go away and I would do it again.

Louise DoleyJune 9, 2021 5:18 PM

I got my first shot 11 days ago and the sore arm wont go. mine has traveled lower down the arm and wrist, bad at the shoulder and sore to the touch at the side of my chest. sometimes the back and neck on that side hurt

I’m literally having the same problem right now. My left shoulder hurts so bad I can’t lift it or do anything the pain is getting worse through the day. I got Pfizer as well.

Doreen ManzoJune 6, 2021 11:47 PM

I had the Moderna vaccine over 2 weeks ago, I was deadly sick for three days, my arm is severely swollen and super fire red hot burning feeling. I cannot touch my arm my body is burning up, my arm is getting worse and hotter and more and more swollen each day. My body does not feel the same, I lost my appetite on top of losing my taste buds. When I received the vaccine my temperature went up above 102 my head was on fire, my headaches are so severe and still are Tylenol will not help. I have to contact my Primary physician tomorrow asap. I think the vaccine really destroyed my body!! My blood pressure is high and I’m very tied. My gut told me not to take the vaccine and I did anyway DUE to the media pressuring us 24/7 Cannot even watch tv without them pressuring every New Yorker to take the vaccine!! I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS VACCINE TO ANYONE..!

I had my second pfizer on the 3 rd april and still got pain in my muscle

JoanieJune 5, 2021 12:38 PM

So thankful I found this site. Had my first AstraZenaca shot early April no real issues. Had my second shot last Sunday, could feel it going in, then within no time my arm started to ache and has been ever since. The pain radiates into my neck and shoulder. Tried Advi, Tylenol, muscle relaxant s, heat, ice etc. Can’t sleep on my left side. Hoping this isn’t something permanent.

I had Astra Zeneca jab and now, 8 days later, the injection site is the most painful of all the days. Have pain and stiffness in neck, shoulder and now. Two ago my hip that is on same side of body as injection became painful. Had hot flushes first 2 days and body temperature generally higher. Rash on skin around lips started today. Have had tiredness off and on. Did not want to take “vaccine” (immunisation actually) due to lack of imperical research over a longer period. Have felt pressured due to some airlines not allowing passengers on without vaccine passport. Have overseas family whom have not seen in nearly two years…what is one to do but capitulate. It has caused a worsening of another illness that was actually improving. Feeling very upset and worried about 2nd jab.

SueJune 7, 2021 6:06 PM

I had my first AstraZenaca jab no problems had my second one 3 weeks ago and had instant pain in my arm aching it is now in my shoulder and radiating down my arm Can’t lift with it can’t sleep on it Going to contact doctor as surely this is not right

I have had these pains for 12 weeks and my arm i cant use driving hurts i cant sleep at night i am miserable the doctor just keeps giving me pain killers. My daily life is affected now i am in constant pain they can keep there second vaccine

SharonJune 5, 2021 9:31 AM

I had my second dose of Moderna on May 21. Spent all last night in the ER due to severe stiff neck, shoulder and upper spine pain plus a fever that started about 6 hours after the vaccine and never went away. All i hear is how everyone else had barely any symptoms and no one will say it could even be remotely related to the shot. I was told i now have arthritis in my upper spine/neck and a heart murmur i never had before. Most blood test results were normal. Put on Motrin, but that didn’t relieve it…praying this goes away in time because i feel miserable.

RinaJune 4, 2021 6:21 PM

So I had the shot in both arms and both arms feel like I have a frozen shoulder. The muscles in the upper parts of both arms hurt esp. if they get jerked. Reaching behind is painful. I’m going to an orthopedist and will tell him the story that sounds akin to I was taken by aliens but I have no explanation for this pain except the shots. I am also using a massage gun on my arms, back and neck to try to help. This is crazy!

Me too. It really hurts

Hugh PottsJune 7, 2021 7:32 PM

Wow, I feel bad for you. Me, it’s just the one arm. Here is some relevant material, you can google “SIRVA” for starters.

SIRVA stands for “Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration.” It can happen when a vaccine is injected into the shoulder too high or too deep and can cause several types of injuries. However, SIRVA can also occur when a vaccine is properly administered as well. This injury can, in turn, lead to intense, prolonged pain, limited range of motion, and shoulder-related injuries such as Adhesive Capsulitis or Frozen Shoulder Syndrome.

SIRVA can be caused by an injury to the musculoskeletal structures of the shoulders (for example tendons, ligaments, bursa) during the injection of a vaccine. Additionally, it can also be caused by the body’s immune system reacting adversely to one or more components of the vaccine.

jimJune 7, 2021 12:21 PM

Hi Rina, I had my second Moderna shot 10 Feb. and continue to have a sore left shoulder/arm. Some days it is really bad and i get out the heating pad. Today I only feel it when I move my arm a certain way. The medical community is determined to ignore these symptoms. No wonder many are now opting out. I would still get the shots, but am disappointed in our CDC folks for just telling us over and over it is all great and wonderful. There are many unknowns with the virus and the vaccine in my opinion.

Randy ScholtenJune 3, 2021 7:44 AM

I had my first Moderna vaccine on April 14 and had no side effects for a week. Then my left arm became extremely sore in the muscles, shoulder, and wrist. I could hardly move it and had problems keeping the pain level tolerable. After three weeks the pain started to go away so I had my second shot on May12, but in my right arm. I started to have problems the next day, similar to what happened to my left arm, but worse. And similar to what others have shared in this forum. In addition to the right arm and shoulder hurting, my collar bone also hurts from the shoulder to the sternum. And I have back pain under my shoulder blade. My neck is stiff and sore. I can’t sleep on my right side or raise my arm. And it isn’t getting any better. I’m glad I found this website! I hope I can find some advice on what to do.

Hey there, I had my first Moderna shot a week ago and am also experiencing the same issues. Sore muscles all over my body and muscle cramps, not to mention overall tiredness. Did these ever go away for you? I’m definitely not having the second shot. Thank you and hope you’re feeling better now.

CarolynJune 3, 2021 3:04 AM

Same here! I had my first Pfizer shot on 3/3 in my right arm and my second shot on 4/1 in my left arm. Left arm is now fine, but the pain in my right arm came back a week or so after Shot #2 and has not gone away since. I usually only feel it when I try to raise my arm above my head or pull it behind my back, but when I do those things it’s very noticeable. It appears concentrated around the injection site and close to the surface. Glad to see I’m not the only one! Take care everyone!

Melanie VeillonMay 29, 2021 12:31 AM

Omg I finally found this discussion that validates that I’m not crazy or imagining the pain in my left arm, shoulders, neck and spine. I received first shot in January with just pain at injection site for about four days. Second shot felt pain immediately but got very sick four days later. Could not get out of bed for the next week. Pain subsided in arm but about a month later, could not raise my arm or sleep on it. Can barely lift it over my head. Then the pain and in my neck, shoulders and spine became an everyday problem. These symptoms will not go away. Keep feeling I need a deep tissue massage because I hurt all the time..

I am having the same issues. Got my 1st shot March and 2nd one April 1st and I still can’t use my right arm where shot given. It pains off and on all the time and I can’t reach behind me to pick my purse when it falls to the back floor driving. Picking up light stuff and reaching out to pick things up is murder. Hard time pulling on and taking off clothes. I am used to pain from accidents but this is 100 percent worse. Thought I was losing my mind until I saw these couple of posts on this site. Seeing a doctor on July 1st, 2021.

Stacy EdmondsMay 27, 2021 12:34 PM

I have the SAME issues. It’s been 5 weeks since my Pfizer vaccine & I can barely lift my arm above my head. I have pain when lifting my toddler or doing the smallest of things. I can’t lie on my left side without pain & I struggle doing arm exercises at the gym. I have random shooting pains with the slightest of movement. I really hope this isn’t permanent 🙁

Tanya GilmoreJune 6, 2021 9:05 AM

I have exactly the same. Had my first shot in February and I was in agony. I have had my second in May and it’s now June and I’m still struggling with the pain. Reaching back or trying to do my bra up or take off is a killer and stops you in your tracks. Can’t lift my arm without pain or do certain movements. Can’t sleep on it and this is annoying as I’m a side sleeper. Getting really fed up with it as it is not getting any better and some days feels worse. Glad I had both in the same arm as I don’t think I could of coped if I was getting this in both arms! 🥺

Lonnie A. McCaugheyMay 26, 2021 4:43 PM

i had my jab in feb, had sore arm ever since, had second jab in april, doctor said i probably pulled a muscle, still hurts to lift arm, or behind my back, after 24 weeks

jimMay 27, 2021 2:57 PM

Hi Lonnie, I had second Moderna 10 Feb and my left shoulder still sore, but not constantly. It depends on the temperature and how I move my arm. If I sleep on it the arm is very sore. It hurts bad enough some times to have a heating pad on the shoulder. However, I still do four sets of bicep curls every other day and also a few bench presses. It seems to be more in the joint than the muscle. I have my doubts if it will every go away. My theory is that the vaccine awakened the immune system to search out some vulnerable area that had arthritis, but up to that point was not symptomatic. You can read how many have similar reactions. No wonder some are hesitant to get the shot. I would still get the shots, but am disappointed we did not get more of a heads up on the side effects. I know I would have a problem swinging a driver since I play left handed. However, I was just a hacker. LOL. jim in Va

My last shot of Moderna was on April 2nd. I am so encouraged to see so many sharing similar stories of their shoulder pain. There seems to be a correlation involving the Covid-19 vaccine. The onset of pain in both shoulders was two weeks ago. I am having less pain in the right shoulder as of today 6-11-21. The left shoulder, where the shot was administered, now is radiating pain to the bend of my arm to the elbow. I still can’t lift my left arm to get undressed without a lot of pain.

OlgaMay 27, 2021 11:47 AM

I’m starting to be afraid that it’s more of an “if” than “when” 🙁

I am left handed and had shot in right arm Its been twelve days and my joints in elbow hurt and burning sensation sometimes where shot was given

Diane TobinJune 12, 2021 9:54 AM

I have the exact same symptoms. I received my second Moderna shot on March 9, and three weeks later developed a burning sensation at the vaccine site. My elbow aches and the ache radiates down my arm. My doctor diagnosed “golfer’s elbow” and attributed it to a drawing course I was taking that required that I spend hours a day doing complex drawings. He said it could also be due to my gardening activities and told me to rest the arm, apply cold compresses and take pain medication. I have followed his instructions and the elbow pain and burning sensation have gotten severe. It hurts to type or even to raise my arm. I had a vaccine-related injury five years ago for which I received compensation, and wonder if my doctor thinks I am “playing the system.” I am not faking the pain, it is real and now as of mid-June getting more severe.

JoelyJune 22, 2021 1:47 PM

Both my elbows are suddenly painful and inflamed. I’ve never had any elbow or arm injury. Its been slowly getting worse since about 3 days after my 2nd Pfzer shot. 🙁

MelissaMay 24, 2021 11:56 AM

YES! Exactly how Louise explains it is what I am also dealing with! “…not slept a full night since. My left arm continues to feel very sore everyday and I cannot longer lie on that side in bed. The slightest stretch can make my arm feel like it’s been ripped out of its socket and then it feels completely dead. It takes my breath away and brings me close to tears! 20 seconds later the pain will subside. I have been left with limited movement in my left shoulder and experience slight pain across my back to my right shoulder, and also in my neck, and find simple tasks such as getting dressed or tying my hair up now difficult. Absolute nightmare!!.”
It has been difficult to explain to anyone who has not been feeling these effects but this is it exactly. I have very limited use of my left arm now and it seems to be getting worse as time goes on rather than easing. My second shot was May 12th. That day and the next I had typical injection pain and was very tired/run down. A few days later I started getting shooting pains in my arm and across my shoulders, with a constant feeling of almost like a knot in a muscle underneath my shoulder blade but then flares up and shoot down my arm and across my back and neck. Then it all goes numb, almost like when you hit your “funny bone” and that arm is useless for a while.
My ankles and feet swelled up like I haven’t seen since I was pregnant (22 yrs ago!) about three days after the second dose. The swollen ankles went down about 24 hrs later and have been ok since.
Also have a constant itchy hand/palm/fingers in my left arm as well (both shots were in the left arm).
I don’t know what to do to relieve this pain and numbness in my arm. It’s getting scary because I keep worrying that maybe it is blood clots or is going to be a permanent side effect since it is not letting up and seems to be spreading!

Louise FennellMay 24, 2021 12:16 AM

Hi everyone, sorry to hear of all your troubles. I too am experiencing many symptoms of what I believe to have stemmed from having my 2nd Covid vaccination administered incorrectly. My 2nd shot was on 26th March. I have not slept a full night since. The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) includes Shoulder Injury as a Result of Vaccine Administration (SIRVA) as a covered injury. You should contact an experienced vaccine injury lawyer. You may have to go out of your state to find one.

Had 1st vaccine Astra Zeneca 30 th jan and had a sore arm where it was administered. Since then on and off I’m aware it’s sore not all the time and really not enough to take meds. I’ve since had second vaccination 15th April in other arm no problem only next day felt a bit lethargic. No pain but still aware of the first injection and no marks or swelling.
